The media has been pounding it into our heads that household mold is the worst possible thing we could find in our homes, and while it isn’t the best problem you could run into, you certainly don’t need to pack up your family and move everyone to grandma’s house.

Finding mold in your home isn’t an unsolvable problem, but before we dive into that, let’s take a look at what the signs of mold are and the steps you need to make to rectify the situation.

Signs of Mold Growth in Your Home

The first sign of mold in your home is growth on various surfaces in your home. This will usually be in areas where you have a higher moisture content. Basements and attics are prime realty for mold growth.

Another significant sign of mold is the smell. Mold has a distinctly musty odor. If you come across this smell in your house, and it’s in a room where you’ve noticed more moisture than normal, there’s an excellent chance you have mold colonies setting up shop.

Allergies and Mold

Surprisingly, not everyone is allergic to mold. Many people don’t exhibit any symptoms at all. However, many do. Mold allergies can manifest in a variety of ways. For some people, it means the typical allergy symptoms such as a runny nose, itchy eyes, and scratchy throat. For others, it can be a headache and dizziness.

If you know you’re allergic to mold and begin to show symptoms, do a household check for mold. If you don’t see any, it’s still worth it to get it checked by a professional mold remediation team.

Do I Need to Move?

Toxic black mold has been a big star in the media lately, but it doesn’t mean every patch of mold you find is of that variety. Toxic black mold, or if we want to get fancy —Stachybotrys Chartarum,—can cause more severe symptoms in people who are allergic to it, but it doesn’t mean your house needs to be demolished.

Some steps can be taken to remove it from your home and get you back into a healthy living situation. Our certified team of mold inspectors can take a look at your situation and help you analyze what needs to be done. We’ll be able to come up with an individualized plan that works for you and your family.
