Common Questions About Mold Removal: Part One

Share Post:

When people contact us about our mold removal services, they usually have a variety of questions. Unless you’re in the mold remediation business like we are, most people don’t think about it until they need us. In fact, I doubt you’re reading this blog post unless you’ve discovered mold growing in your home and are searching for answers.

You’re in luck.

Today I’m going to tackle the first set of questions in a new two-part series. We get several of the same questions regularly and I thought it would be easier to break this up into two parts on the blog.

Let’s get started.

Common Questions About Mold Removal

“Does your company do home inspections for mold?”

You’ll need an actual home inspection company to complete a home inspection but if they discover mold, they’ll give you a report of their findings. Once you know where mold is growing inside your home, you can contact us. We’ll take a look at the report and help devise a plan to tackle and solve the problem.

“I have an odor in my house and suspect I have mold. The problem is I don’t see anything. What can I do?”

Mold has the ability to grow in incredibly small spaces. With a little moisture and a feeding source such as wood, it can make a home in spaces you can’t see. This is when you have to use your sense of smell to detect a possible problem.

Mold has a very distinct smell. It’s a musty, stale odor and if you smell it, there’s a good chance you have some mold growth. That’s where we come in to help. With no visual signs of mold, but the presence of a musty odor, we recommend doing air testing. We offer air quality testing and rates begin at $295. This includes one indoor sample as well as one outdoor sample.

Air quality testing will allow us to see the mold spores that are present in the air and whether or not they’re different than the ones we find in an outdoor setting.

This almost always leads to the next question.

“Why do I need an outdoor sample for air quality testing?”

Mold occurs naturally in the outdoors. This means every time you go outside, you collect mold spores on your clothes and, in return, you bring them into your home. The majority of the time, this isn’t an issue. It’s the mold we’re accustomed to being around.

However, if a mold colony begins to grow in your home due to excess moisture or poor ventilation, this is when it becomes a problem.

An air quality test allows us to have a comparable rate to compare the indoor sample and tells us what steps we need to take next in the mold removal process.
